Questions & Answers

In order to try and comprehend the immense changes occurring in their lives, children often ask a lot of questions. Knowing how to respond to these questions can be challenging for any parent.

Some questions children may have include:

  • Where will I live?

  • Will I have to change schools?

  • Will I still see relatives or friends?

  • Where will the other parent be and how often will I see them?

  • Is it my fault?

  • Was it something I did wrong?

In order to know how to respond to these questions you might like to practice responding in a way that shows you are listening to their questions and respects their feelings. While this may be complex and challenging, preparing for questions they may ask will take the stress out of responding on the spot.

It’s also important to remember that you don’t need to have all the answers at once and you are allowed to ask for time to come back to your child once you have considered their question and found the best way to respond.
